Uncover a beautiful Sea Salt Refinery in Anglesey

About this Experience

Halen Môn is a hidden gem on the edge of the Menai Strait on the Anglesey Coast, an award-winning Saltcote and Visitor Centre, and one of Wales most innovative food businesses. We will take a tour of the refinery to see the process behind creating Wales’s unique sea salt flakes.

In 1997, The founders of Helen Môn left a saucepan of seawater to boil on the Aga in their family kitchen and as the salt crystals started to form, they knew they’d struck culinary gold. Today, the Welsh sea salt is enjoyed around the world by chefs, food lovers and even Barack Obama. It has been served at the London 2012 Olympics, political summits and royal weddings and is a vital ingredient in Green & Blacks chocolate and Piper’s Crisps. Thousands of customers agree it is the best salt for cooking.

Along with over 100 of the nation’s best delicatessens in the UK, this sea salt can be found in more than 22 countries across the globe as well as on the tables of some of the world’s top restaurants such as The Fat Duck.

Enjoy a salt tasting experience as part of your tour to sample the different types of salt produced and the differences between them.

As well as being where it makes the sea salt, the Saltcote is home to a contemporary, design-led gift shop, which you will have time to visit. There are gift sets galore if you are looking to buy sea salt as a present for loved ones back home.
